I've noticed a few people visiting this blog have wondered about why Les Miles dislikes Jarett Lee so much. Why he 'hates' him.
There are two reasons for this; interceptions and style.
LSU's Quarterback situation was strained when Flynn's replacement Ryan Perrilloux was kicked off the team just before the beginning of the season. This forced LSU to scramble with two very young and inexperienced quarterbacks; Jarett Lee and Jordan Jefferson.
Jarett Lee would look down the field and try to pass the ball. This resulted in big yards and a high scoring offense, but Jarett Lee also was throwing a lot of interceptions.
Jordan Jefferson on the other hand would almost never look down-field, he'd the tuck the ball and scramble for a few yards. Every once in a while he'd scramble for a first down.
Jordan Jefferson's quarterback style was more compatible with Les Miles style of offense. And Les Miles never forgave Jarett Lee for his interceptions. Although they administration tried to mask it, you could see Crowton's support for Jarett Lee over the years. Jarett was very much Crowton's Quarterback and often after a year of inactivity would consider transferring to another school; just to stick around on the slim hope that Crowton and him would be given a chance.
This can probably best be seen during the 2009 season; during one of the games when Jordan was playing disastrously, Crowton tried to send Jarett Lee in, only to be over-ruled by Miles Les generating a lot of confusion on the sideline.
It is all quite sad really. Jarett Lee won important games for LSU this year. When LSU needed him he was there. But he didn't see a single play in the SEC Championship game, or the BCS Championship game. That is quite a deal of disrespect for someone who stuck by a program that didn't seem very keen on sticking by him.
